How it works

Customized to You, the Prime User

MiY Diabetes introduces a new way to address health challenges such as Diabetes. Since most of the effort to control type 2 diabetes is left up to the individual, MiYDiabetes provides a customized program of daily coaching to help you live a healthier lifestyle. The heart of MiY Diabetes is a knowledge processing system with flexible, experienced-based rules to guide you toward this healthier lifestyle.

Prime User’s Daily Plan

MiY Diabetes is designed to help Prime Users self-manage their high blood sugar (pre-diabetes and type II diabetes). To be successful as a prime user, here, below, is what you can expect. There are six major aspects of your daily life that you will need to focus on to successfully self-manage your high blood sugar. Recording daily measurements on these aspects should take less than 5 minutes. Your real effort is focusing on each these key aspects.

Exercise – The best way to measure your level of activity each day is to use some type of steps measurement. An alternate could be the minutes spent on some type of strenuous gym equipment. (Note: A good conversion is about 100 steps per minute on a machine).

Diet – Measuring calories is a difficult measurement but there are many techniques and devices to help you determine the number of calories consumed each day.

Sleep – There are a growing array of devices for measuring your sleep and you can always fall back on a clock or watch.

Medications – keeping track of the number of prescribed medications that you take each day.

Harmful Substances – Ceasing all uses of harmful substances is critical to avoiding full diabetes. These substances include tobacco, alcohol (more than one drink per day) and illegal drugs.

Attitude – Maintaining a positive attitude toward controlling your daily activities.

In addition to the six quantitative measures, there are six qualitative measures that are equally important to measure. Measuring how you feel and observing the trends about your progress will help you stick to your plan and increase your chances of slowing or even avoiding diabetes.

Be A Helper

MiY Diabetes recommends that each Prime User set up a personal support group of Helpers.

Since Diabetes self-management is an ongoing process, it is very important for the P-user to establish and maintain a strong support network. The ideal setup is to have three or more Helpers consisting of a family member, a friend, and a member of your medical team. These Helpers must first sign up for a free MiYDiabetes Helper account. As Prime User you can invite each to become a member of your personal support group. These Helpers have ongoing access to the P-User’s trends. These trends show the P-User’s progress, helping to provide on-going encouragement and support. The system also sends alerts to the Helpers if usage falls off or specific concerns are detected by the P-user’s trends.

Having a member of the P-user’s medical team participate is encouraged. This allows your medical team, usually a nurse and/or physician, to obtain feedback on your condition in-between office visits and be more likely to take action if the trends indicate that a change is needed.

There are two types of registered users:

Short Term Goals

P-Users

A Prime User is anyone who has been diagnosed with or believes they have elevated blood glucose (sugar) and who will benefit directly from using the system. The P-User is anyone who has a strong desire to make the necessary changes to effectively control and hopefully avoid the potential problems caused by diabetes. Since MiY Diabetes is a serious product to aid pre-diabetes users, P-Users are charged a modest annual subscription fee. This allows us to avoid distractions and clutter from numerous ads.
Helper Team

Helpers

All other registered users are considered Helpers and have free but limited access to the system. A registered Helper has access to P-User trends as authorized by the specific P-User. A P-User may invite registered users to be Helpers on his/her team (usually family members, friends, clinicians or other specialists) who are willing to provide on-going help and support to the P-User. Likewise, any registered user may offer to be a Helper to any P-User. When a Helper has been accepted by a P-User, that Helper will be given limited access to the P-User’s data, usually in the form of trends and alerts authorized by the P-User. A strong Helper team is vital to the long term success of a P-User’s self-management effort.
